OVERVIEW

Information and Communication Technology (ICT) encompasses all technologies used to handle communications, including the internet, wireless networks, computers, software, video-conferencing, social networking, and other services.

Proficiency in ICT equips our learners with the foundational skills needed for many modern careers (including computer science, software engineering, web development, data engineering, A.I. engineering etc.), ensuring they can compete on an equal footing in the job market.

Empowering deaf children with ICT skills is a step towards inclusivity, enabling them to participate fully in today’s interconnected society.

CHALLENGES

There are a number of needs that the ICT department has in order to better fulfil its goals, including:

• New desktops, laptops for the ICT laboratory
• New licenses for many essential software
• A stronger internet connection
• A printer in the ICT lab
• Air conditioning to cool down the machines
• More room to accommodate the pupils

OVERVIEW

Woodworking is art and craft of creating useful and creative objects from wood, involving techniques like carving, joinery, and carpentry. Woodworking fosters creativity, patience, precision and problem-solving through the design and construction of tangible projects.

Our learners learn to make and restore chairs, stools, tables, cabinets, doors, and various other practical household furniture. Many of our former learners are currently working in the furniture and woodworking industry, with many of them self-employed.

CHALLENGES

The woodwork department is in need of many pieces of equipment in order to better equip the learners, including:

• An interactive board and computer aided design (CAD) software
• Industrial machines e.g. combination planner, saws (band & panel), mortising machine
• Portable power tools e.g. hand power planners, sanders (belt & orbital), upholstering sets
• Hand tools e.g. jack planes, saws (tenon, cross-cut & rip), clamps (G & sash), mallets

Home economics is the management of the household and its resources, encompassing areas such as food and nutrition, clothing and textiles, and personal hygiene.

Our learners are empowered to better manage the basic requirements of everyday life, and as such, contribute meaningfully to their families and society at large.

CHALLENGES

The home economics department is in need of new textbooks and new equipment equipment including:

• Sewing machines
• An upright refrigerator and a freezer
• New stoves

OVERVIEW

The textile technologies department focuses on the production and manipulation of clothes and textiles, from fiber creation to fabric design and garment manufacturing.

Our learners are empowered to design, cut and sew any garment of their choice. This empowers our learners to be self reliant and to possibly create their own clothing projects and become self-employed.

CHALLENGES

The textile technologies department is in need of new textbooks including:

• Dynamics of Fashion and Fabrics
• Step Ahead 'O’ Level Fashion and Fabrics
• Needlework and Manual Volume 1 & 2

The department is also in need of new equipment including:

• Hemming machines
• Sewers (straight & buttonhole)
• An industrial steam iron

OVERVIEW

The food technology course is practical study of the processing, preservation, packaging, and preparation of safe and nutritious food.

Our learners are taught to plan and prepare meals using a variety of cooking methods and ingredients. They are also taught how to balance meals, safely preserve food, and to use nutrition to promote good health. The learners are also taught to bake bread and various other confectionery. These skills help our learners adopt better nutritional practices, and also pursue careers in food and catering after school.

The food technology department is in need of new equipment including:

• New stoves (electric & gas)
• New refrigerators
• Electric mixers and blenders
• New sauce pans (various sizes)
• Jugs (vacuum & electric)
• Trays and serving dishes

OVERVIEW

In the art and design department we explore the creative process of visual expression, combining aesthetics, functionality, and innovation in various mediums and forms.

Our learners are taught to draw, sketch, paint, bead, weave, work with clay, work with fabric dyes, and to macramé (knotting threads or cords into decorative or geometrical patterns). These teach our learners to be creative, innovative, aesthetic, skills that are useful in all other aspects of their lives. Many of the skills also allow the learners to pursue future careers in art, design and craftsmanship.

The departments also also wishes to expand its printing section to be able to print t-shirts using a heat-press machine.

The art and design department is in need of new equipment and materials including:

• A heat-press machine
• A printer
• Beads, paints (water & oil), coloured pens & pencils etc.

OVERVIEW

We promote physical fitness and wellness through a variety of sports, exercises, and activities that enhance the body's strength, coordination, and health. Our learners are also taught to administer first-aid - a vital life skill.

In this department we also teach the learners to play various mallet instruments including marimba and drums. This helps our learners develop rhythm and coordination.

The physical education and arts department is in need of new equipment and materials including:

• Gymnastics mats
• Various sporting equipment e.g. balls
• New drums and marimba

OVERVIEW

Stone sculpture is the art of shaping natural stone into visually interesting three-dimensional form, and plays an important part in Zimbabwe's cultural and artistic heritage. Zimbabwean stone sculptures are world renowned.

We help our learners develop a keen sense of spatial awareness and fine motor skills, and help them develop the patience and planning skills necessary for the craft. These acquired skills not only foster creativity and artistic expression but also open pathways to careers in restoration, architecture, and design, where visual and tactile abilities are highly valued.

The stone sculpture department in need of new equipment and materials including:

• Chisels (brushing and pointed)
• New mallets and hammers
• More serpentine stone (springstone, leopard rock, and fruit serpentine)

OVERVIEW

This course teaches learners the principles of horticulture and garden design, including plant cultivation, garden maintenance, and landscape planning. The course also covers essential topics such as soil health, plant selection, and sustainable gardening practices to create beautiful, functional outdoor spaces.

The learners plan, plant, and manage various plants and crops, learning to work with various gardening techniques and tools in the process. This course prepares participants for careers in horticulture, garden management, or for simply enhancing their personal gardening projects later in life.

CHALLENGES

The gardening department is currently trying to expand its enclosures and greenhouses.
